Transforming Environments, One Initiative at a Time

At E9 Creative, we believe in transforming environments and designing a space that inspires you. This belief extends not just to client projects, but also to the society around us. Our urge for improving everyday environments in India drives our CSR initiative that focuses on community development. We aspire to upgrade civic facilities like police stations into spaces that match the modern rhythm of creativity while being functional workspaces that remain approachable for citizens.

Sankarapuram Police Station, Bengaluru, Karnataka

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, we at E9 Creative undertook the project of renovating the local police station in Sankarapuram in southern Bengaluru pro bono.

As a public space, the requirements for this project were unique, presenting us with an exciting challenge. Our first step was understanding the existing conditions, features, and do's and don'ts of the structure. After an in-depth analysis of its pros and cons and documenting the existing details, our task was to design a concept that matched the requirements while handling the challenges.

The challenges were five-pronged: First, we needed to handle the structure with care as it was quite old. Second, water seepage had to be addressed carefully in tandem with the structure's condition. Third, the existing electrical wiring was unplanned, posing a challenge to remodelling efforts. Fourth, as this was a police station, we had to ensure it stayed functional for the public amidst the renovation process. And our final yet equally crucial challenge was handling the files and records of the police station with utmost care.

We designed the concept with the vision of adding character and strong design features to the existing structure. To make the renovated structure look more in sync with the architecture of Indian government buildings, we focused on aspects like material genuinity, bold formal expression, functional fineness, and structural performance. A special addition was the introduction of arches, inspired by the Louis Kahn design principle, and their repetition to give a sense of uniformity to the structure.

From formulating a base colour scheme to addition of dedicated seating and waiting areas, officer cabins, workstations, and cells, our team made sure the revamped police station was aesthetic yet functional. Our use of 3M Environmental Graphics ensured sustainability, while the inclusion of warm lights and cosy spaces meant creating a place that allowed people who needed help to step in without worry.

As the pilot of E9 Creative's 'Change Your Environment' initiative, this project was us giving back to the community in a way we knew best.
